Starting point at roughly 2,610m elevation, where both permits are checked before entry. A police checkpoint here verifies your national park and mountain area permits.
The only overnight lodge on the route, at about 3,402m elevation. Bunks must be reserved months in advance through the park's lottery system — this is usually the hardest part of planning the trip, not the hike itself.
The summit at 3,952m, the highest point in Northeast Asia. Most hikers leave Paiyun Lodge around 2-3am to reach the peak for sunrise, then retrace the same trail back down to Tataka.
