Tenerife has long been synonymous with year-round sunshine, golden beaches and spectacular volcanic landscapes. On 12 August, however, visitors may discover that one of the island’s greatest attractions begins before sunset and continues long into the night. During the late afternoon and early evening, a partial solar eclipse will see around 70% of the Sun obscured by the Moon, before darkness gives way to the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower, one of the most prolific displays of shooting stars visible anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere.
